Why streamers are shrinking their content libraries
  + stars: | 2024-04-02 | by ( Sarah Whitten | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +6 min
Last year many streaming services began shrinking their once-robust content libraries in order to pay smaller licensing fees. In the face of profit pressures and growing competition for viewers, streamers have taken to removing content to avoid the residual payments and licensing fees. On one side is Netflix , Amazon and Apple — companies that agnostically license content from other studios to bolster their streaming libraries. Disney-owned Hulu, meanwhile, has seen success with "feel good" 30-minute sitcoms and prestige dramas, Fandom's data shows. Disclosure: Peacock is the streaming service of NBCUniversal, the parent company of CNBC.

As the press, young stars had been trained to put their best face forward whenever I was around. But what about the perspective of the teen stars whose names — and lives — we were actually using? I interviewed hundreds of young stars periodically as they worked on new projects. I'm not sure if young stars should be allowed to be interviewed at allI've now watched "Quiet on Set" several times. Had the questions I'd been asking hurt anyone in ways I was unaware of?

Under the settlement, merchants could charge customers more for using different cards despite being part of the same Visa or Mastercard network. Nickelodeon’s 2005 series “Avatar: The Last Airbender” was a sprawling odyssey that combined intricate world-building, meticulous references to Asian and Native cultures, lively humor and sharply plotted drama, all animated in a charming, anime-inspired style. In 2010 there was the famously whitewashed live-action film “The Last Airbender,” which was, deservedly, met with a ferocious torrent of fan-fury. The sequel series, “Avatar: The Legend of Korra,” was more in touch with the original, but still unnecessary. And the same can be said for Netflix’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” the streamer’s latest big money, live-action adaptation that proves just how difficult it is to capture the magic of a beloved original. Like the original series, Netflix’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender” also takes place in a fictional Eastern world of four nations: Air Nomads, Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation.
